I felt it was time to reintroduce myself.  My name is Julie Phillips. I left my job as a full time English teacher and Head of Department to retrain as a clinical hypnotherapist and stress coach. My experience of stress, before I became a therapist, might sound familiar  to you. As busy professional, I was committed to my job and did not recognise the increase in the signs of stress and exhaustion – I just kept working hoping one day I would feel better.  Sadly, by the time I was  signed off on sick leave, it was too late, I had reached complete ‘burn out’.

I had symptoms of toxic stress, including crippling anxiety and a constant fear I was not ‘good enough’, which kept me awake with terrible insomnia. I was mentally drained and tearful on a daily basis.

Physical Symptoms

The irritable bowel symptoms  had started as occasional diahorrea then developed in to bloating and painful wind. If you have ever experienced that feeling of terror that you won’t reach the loo on time, you will understand how much this impacted on my career. You see,  I couldn’t just leave a classroom or a meeting to sit on the loo for half an hour! The anxiety of something ’embarrassing’ happening in public increased my stress. My symptoms were out of control.

Reducing stress

I had to make some changes, but everything just seemed so hard . A friend recommended Hypnotherapy and I can remember the relief as my stress drained away during the first session. I didn’t have to explain myself,  the therapist understood what I needed to feel better. Hypnotherapy helped me rebalance my life and improve my mental and physical health.
