Business Brain Burn Out? Stress that can cause chaos in your  business.

Next year will mark 10 years of me leaving my full time teaching role and starting my first business. In 2018, I added a second business to my portfolio which did not work out as I expected, and I had to close. In 2019, I added a third.

There’s a lot of mental resilience required to run a business and I have had to learn a lot of strategies to help me deal with vast and long lasting changes that have recently impacted all businesses across the world.

When I was a full time teacher and Head of Department, I had very few skills to support my mental health  and knew practically nothing about how to deal with stress. Eventually that led to burn out.

These days, my mental resilience has been redefined with the specific focus protecting my time  and energy; I’m mindful about personal & professional boundaries.  I understand how hard it is not to be consumed by your business! That too can lead to burn out.

Mental challenges

I recognise the rush of feelings as you watch your business grow and the mental changes required to manage the stress. I understand about the creative pressures around marketing and reaching new customers. I have also experienced the deep lows that come with the toxic fear of failure; I know harsh realities of letting go of a business that no longer serves you.

I have started some businesses with huge excitement, and I have closed them with tears.  I know that steep learning curve that comes with HR stuff and staffing. I understand the need to protect jobs and the worry about whether those invoices will be paid on time!

There are long meetings and days when you live off sandwiches. There are long nights when anxiety rages through your mind.

I also know how important it is to get support to reduce stress before it really takes hold of you.

You ARE the business!

Whilst the majority of my business clients are extremely productive, organised, and creative people who are passionate about what they do, they are also usually working phenomenal hours each week and put their own needs to the bottom of a big ‘to do ‘ list.

Business owners are strong people who often find it hard to ask for help or even know what help they need. They may even avoid seeking help because they can do not want to waste time waiting for support. This is where hypnotherapy can help; sessions can be booked  quickly, it’s private,  there is no great need to ask a lot of questions or spend hours talking . Hypnotherapy works at a deep unconscious level to reduce cortisol levels release stress instantly.

Physical symptoms

When the stress increases, this can also lead to exhaustion. Some of my clients develop insomnia, headaches, and IBS (irritable bowel symptoms). When symptoms are at this point, I know that my clients are on a ‘code red’ . In conversation with my business clients they often reveal how little time they give to themselves to relax or have fun; the common theme is ‘guilt’ that they feel a need to do more.

A physical symptom is often a key signal from your unconscious mind that you need to slow down and pay attention to your stress levels.   Hypnotherapy is a fantastic therapy to help business owners relax both body and mind – sessions are designed to help reduce physical symptoms.  I also work with clients who have long Covid and post viral fatigue.

I have successfully helped owners of  large, medium, and small businesses grow, change, and improve their focus on the things that matter, whilst maintaining their business in the way that is true for them.  The appreciate the confidentially and the therapeutic space to explore issues with clarity and calm – this leads to the best results including improvements in their business too.

My therapy office is on the Terry Dicken Business Park in Stokesley and easily accessible for wheelchairs. There are also male/female and wheelchair accessible toilets, tea/coffee/ water and free parking.
